Discussion
Over the past 9 years we have treated patients with unresectable gallbladder
carcinomas or extrahepatic bill duct carcinomas at our hospital on a protocol employing
cytostatics. MTX/5Fu, as the beneficial role of the two drugs combination, and the
rationale for the use of the combination was anti-tumor effect was reported when
systemic cisplatinum and hyperthemia were combined by O.Dahl. These data provide
support for the suggestion that there may be a role for anti-tumor effects in patients
with adenocarcinoma of the gallbladder and extrahepatic bile duct being considered for
our hyperthermo-chemo-radiotherapy. We designed, therefore, two arms of chemotherapy
regimen for the concomitant use of hyperthemia and radiotherapy. Though the number
of the patients in the current study are small. the preliminary results will provide
encouraging information and future prospects.
